Schloss Plüschow, Plüschow, Germany

The Monument
Schloss Plüschow was built by the merchant Philip Heinrich von Stenglin as his summer residence in 1763, and then sold to the prince (who inherited Mecklenburg). It belonged to the family of the archduke until 1946. After 1945, the castle was used as a shelter for refugees of the war, then over some time kinder-garten, hostel and office. It has been listed historic monument in the 1950s and since the disappearance of the GDR is hosting the current cultural project.
The Activities
From spring until the end of the autumn, current art tendencies are presented in the Artists’ residence of Mecklenburg Schloss Plüschow, which permits German and foreign artists to live and work at this location for a short time (the castle has six work studios). A rigorous artistic program, relationship with youth, the development of a number of regional and international contacts, a work in cutting-edge media are all the most important elements of the institution’s project. The interdisciplinary work also integrates researchers, technicians and labour manual workers in order to share knowledge and know-how.
